What is Scorpion Solitaire

The tableau game with a sting in the tail

Scorpion Solitaire is a single-player game played with one 52-card deck dealt into seven columns, almost entirely face up. Grab any face-up card — even from the middle of a column — and everything stacked on it moves with it. Build all four suits from King down to Ace, straight in the tableau, and each finished run collects itself. No two shuffles play the same.

The signature grab rule
Pick up any face-up card, no matter how deep in a column — everything stacked on it rides along as one unit. Only the card you grabbed has to fit the destination.

How to play

How to play Scorpion Solitaire

Scorpion rewards a bold grab. Reach deep into a column, build each suit down from King to Ace, and spend the reserve when — and only when — you truly need it.

  1. 1

    Read the deal

All 52 cards go into seven tableau columns, seven cards apiece. In the first four columns, the top three cards are dealt face down; every other card on the board starts face up. Three leftover cards sit to the side as the reserve.

  2. 2

Grab a card — and everything riding on it

Click any face-up card, no matter how deep in its column, and every card stacked above it comes along as one unit. Only the card you actually grabbed has to fit the pile you drop it on — its passengers just ride along, in order, even if they were not a matching sequence to begin with.

  3. 3

Build in suit, a King opens a column

A card can land only on a pile whose top card is exactly one rank higher and the same suit — a 9♦ on a 10♦, nothing else. An empty column will only accept a King, or a group led by one, so clearing a column is only useful once you have a King ready to move.

  4. 4

Spend the reserve, then watch runs clear

Once, whenever you choose, deal the three reserve cards face up onto the bottoms of the first three columns. The moment a column holds a complete King-to-Ace run of one suit, it locks in and clears itself — get all four suits home to win.

Tips to win more games

  • Dig into the first four columns first — they hide three face-down cards each, and every one you flip is new information.
  • You are not limited to a column's top card. Grabbing deeper on purpose, riders and all, is often the move that unburies a card you actually need.
  • Save the reserve. It permanently adds a card to three columns with no way to take it back except undo, so spend it only once you have genuinely run out of better moves.
  • Plan one column toward empty deliberately, and only when you already know which King will fill it — an empty column with no King queued up is wasted space.
  • Do not be precious about a tidy same-suit run. Scorpion does not penalise moving cards out of order, so break a run apart to reach a buried card whenever it helps.
  • Chase reveals before runs. A move that flips a hidden card is almost always worth more than one that only tidies an already-visible column.
  • Undo is free and unlimited — use it to test a risky grab before you commit to it.

FAQ

Scorpion Solitaire, answered

Straight answers about the free Scorpion Solitaire card game you can play online in your browser.

What is Scorpion Solitaire?

Scorpion Solitaire is a single-player tableau card game played with one standard 52-card deck. Seven columns are dealt almost entirely face up, and the goal is to arrange all 52 cards into four King-to-Ace runs of a single suit, built directly in the tableau. There are no foundations to manually play to — a completed run collects itself.

How do you play Scorpion Solitaire?

Deal seven columns of seven cards, with the top three cards of the first four columns face down. Pick up any face-up card — even from the middle of a column — and move it, along with everything stacked on it, onto a card of the same suit one rank higher. Only a King can start an empty column. Once, deal the three reserve cards onto the first three columns when you need more options. Complete all four suits from King to Ace to win.

Is Scorpion Solitaire free to play online?

Yes. scorpionsolitaire.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no interruptive video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page and a game is already dealt.

Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.

Can I really move a card that is not part of a matching sequence?

Yes — this is the rule that sets Scorpion apart from Klondike or Spider. You may grab any face-up card no matter how deep in a column, and every card stacked on top of it moves with it as one group, even if that group is not itself a valid same-suit run. The only requirement is that the card you actually clicked fits the destination: the same suit, one rank higher.

What is the reserve, and when should I use it?

The reserve is three cards set aside at the deal. Once, whenever you choose, you can deal them face up onto the bottoms of the first three tableau columns — there is no second reserve. Because it permanently adds cards to those three columns, most players save it for when no other tableau move is available.

What happens when I complete a suit?

The moment a tableau column holds a complete run of thirteen cards, King down to Ace, all in one suit and all face up, it locks in automatically and clears out of the tableau. You do not drag it anywhere — the column simply empties and that suit is done.

How does scoring work?

Score is our own simple tally, since Scorpion has no traditional points table: five points per card you move, a fifteen-point bonus for revealing a face-down card, and two hundred points for each suit you complete. Time and move count are tracked separately so you can chase a fast win or a low-move win.

Is every game of Scorpion Solitaire winnable?

No. Some shuffles cannot be solved regardless of how well you play, and there is no reliable way to tell in advance. The deep-grab rule and the reserve make many more deals solvable than a stricter tableau game would allow, but a genuine dead end is still possible. If you get stuck, deal a new game.

How do I win more games?

Dig into the four columns with hidden cards early, and get comfortable grabbing from the middle of a column on purpose rather than only ever taking the top card. Track where each King is before you bury one, and hold the reserve back until you have genuinely run out of tableau moves. Undo is unlimited, so use it to test a risky grab before committing.

Does the game save my progress?

Your best score, best time, fewest moves, games played, and win streak are saved locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Because the save lives on the device, a different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data looks like a fresh start. A game in progress is not saved if you close the tab.

Can I play Scorpion Solitaire on mobile?

Yes. The layout is built for touch: tap a card to pick it up and tap a column to drop it, or drag directly. The seven tableau columns and the reserve fit on one portrait screen, and dealing a new game is instant with no page reload.
